Overview
Unsuccessful in business and languid in daily life, Mr. Unfortunate decides to commit suicide. It seems that fate has a different thought from him. Would his plan work this time?
Mr. Unfortunate is a small point & click puzzle game, with a theme of time traveling. In this game, you'll explore diverse scenes and interact with various objects using only the mouse. Whenever you get stuck in gameplay walkthrough, check the journal and follow the instructions. Unlike many stories with a typical narration, players in this game will unveil a story with a series of flashbacks. |

Why did I build this game?
The Geta Game Jam #4 was hosted on itch.io, and the theme is Chain Reaction. I was interested so I took part in. That was my first time participating in Game Jam. The time was rather limited and I had to work all by myself, but I believed where there is a will, there is a way. Firstly, I took a deep breath and thought about my current resources: I did not have music composing basic so I would use open source music; I had some experience in script writing, painting and programming, so I would create my original ones; I was quite familiar with developing Unity 2D games, so I believe it would be a good choice to use Unity in the Game Jam. Having a clear picture of my available resources, I brainstormed on the theme.
What is the game's main idea?
The chain reaction was a term in chemistry, suggesting a sequence of reactions where a reactive product or by-product causes additional reactions to take place. However, I did not want to deliver a gaming presentation about a certain chemical reaction, I would like to design a game of Mr. Unfortunate experiencing a series of coincident leading to more unlucky reactions. Mr. Unfortunate wanted to commit a suicide and brought his bad luck to the end. Unfortunately, his bad luck was still there when he was trying to kill himself. Then he tried to use a time machine to correct his mistake in the plan, but every change in history led to another mistake. It was a chain reaction. The message I wanted to deliver was not leading players to experience sadness and desperation, but to reflect on a positive philosophy: even if life was full of misfortune, we never give up.
